2010 TRB Presentation (Raleigh North Carolina) GreenLITES Implementation in Colorado (1132 KB)
TerrraLogic is providing sustainable design and program development coordination to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The Project involves the 'test driving" of the NYDOT GreenLITES Program by CDOT. The presentation provides an overview of the GreenLITES program, the CDOT implementation approach and initial observations.
2010 TRB Presentation Transportation Approaches to Sutainable Construction (5895 KB)
This presentation was developed for the TRB Summer Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. TerraLogic provided approaches that can be used to develop and implement sustainable practices during construction projects. TerraLogic identified cost effectice appraoches involving recycling and impact avoidance.
Daily Journal Article- Sustainable Construction (1274 KB)
TerraLogic was asked by McGraw Hill to develop an article about sustainability and construction activities. The emphasis behind the article discusses that sustainable actions are cost effective and may be new to construction contractors. Contractors need to be aware of upcoming sustainability requirements by clients and should develop their own internal sustainability program as a selling point.

Integrating Sustainability into the Design-Build Process
Design build projects have become more popular in many state departments of transportation throughout the United States. Design-build projects are known to be both cost and time efficient in comparison to typical design-bid-build projects. Design-build is a project delivery method under which a project owner executes a single contract for both architectural/engineering services and construction.

Sustainable Opportunities in the Design-Build Process
TerraLogic was asked to attend and provide this presentation in Washington DC on sustainable approaches for construction projectsDesign-build transportation projects have dramatically increased in popularity over the past several years throughout the United States. The increase in design-build projects has been related to shortened delivery schedules for fast track projects. The presentation at the Annual TRB Conference

Sustainability Options for Transportation
Transportation engineers are now being asked to integrate sustainability into their system designs; many of them do not understand the sustainability concept. This presentation provides examples of actual sustainable actions that should be considered by transportation planners, designers and maintenance professionals. This topic was presented during the 2008 CDOT Transportation Conference with the main theme being sustainability.

Integrated Stormwater Concepts Towards Sustainability TerraLogic’s Art Hirsch has been frequently asked by CDOT to give presentations concerning stormwater and surface water management. These presentations cover a wide range of stormwater management issues concerning litigation, sustainability best management practices, water chemistry and integration into the NEPA process. These presentations were meant to educate transportation stormwater professionals and their management on the risks and l

TMDL Impacts to High Altitude Highway Operations Wintertime highway operations can present a potential environmental impact streams receiving stormwater and snow melt drainage from highway systems. The use of traction sand by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to increase public driving safety has the potential of causing stream impairments especially in high alpine conditions. Straight Creek located on Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel was identified by CDPHE and EPA as

Environmental Risks Associated with High Altitude Highway Operations in Colorado
Wintertime maintenance actions on highway systems can have an environmental impact. Stream impacts may be realized from the addition of chemical deicers that contain numerous salts and heavy metals. Traction sand that also salt, can cause significant stream impacts due to sedimentation that can impact macro invertebrate and fish habitats.
